John Myers: Martin Parr Foundation

It was my first time visiting the Martin Parr Foundation after Stephen sent us an email advertising a free talk by John Myers at the Paintworks in Bristol. I'd never heard of John Myers or seen his work but since I was free I thought I'd just show up and see what he was about. To my surprise, it turns out John is actually from my hometown of Stourbridge in the West Midlands which is where the majority of his work was shot.

'He was a typologist (television sets, electricity substations) before the Bechers made the term their own. From the leaflet handed out I was excited to see some of his Portraiture taken in my hometown. however the talk consisted of his photobook 'Looking at the Overlooked'
